History of the boutique hotel
The exterior of the building, listed by the National Board of Antiquities, has been painstakingly restored with respect for tradition. The interior of the frame, typically of the period, was carved from logs and covered with pink boards. After extensive renovation, the pink panels were removed and the well-preserved log frame and the beautiful 'salmon-tail' mouldings in the corners were cleaned by ice-blowing to their full, dignified glory.
Now, the old building's handsome structures come into their own both downstairs in the bright hall - where both the PutiikkiHotelli Kemi 1932 reception and the Cafe Hertta Kemi café are located - and upstairs in the hotel's hotel rooms, each decorated slightly differently.
The old State Railways workers' site housing has also been given a new look and can now accommodate families and larger groups. A historically valuable, almost a century-old courtyard of old timber and brick buildings and the railway yard, which has seen many turbulent years, is being brought back to life.
The railway station area and the renovated buildings surrounding it will form a new accommodation, café and event area, Kemi Station Park, which will serve both the local population and tourists visiting the city.
