The History of The Hotel

PutiikkiHotelli Kemi 1932 occupies the whole of the 3 hectare historic center of Kemi creating a unique atmosphere that you will not find anywhere else in Lapland. If you arrive by train, you arrive straight to our hotel. The main building of PutiikkiHotelli Kemi was originally built as the restaurant building of the industrial town’s train station.

The hotel area and its buildings are protected by the Finnish State Department of Antiquities. The buildings were renovated respecting their history, whilst adding all modern conveniences. Today the original beautiful log structures of the main building have been brought to life with a modern ice blasting technique for our guests to enjoy.
The rich history of the building is present in the downstairs restaurant hall that also welcomes PutiikkiHotelli Kemi guests as well as in the upstairs rooms. Even our toilets at Cafe Hertta have become a tourist attraction.
Also the former state railways staff quarters, a row of town houses, have been renovated to the use of PutiikkiHotelli Kemi 1932. It offers luxurious family suites in a fully private town house setting, each with two old restored fire places, two bedrooms, private kitchen and bathroom and even your own little terrace overlooking the grounds.
The Kemi Central Railway Park area consists of the whole 3 hectares of the historic center of Kemi. Besides the hotel, the area hosts the famous Cafe Hertta with its own bakery, an event and conference area that all serve visitors and locals alike.
